What We Do... We offer FUN events and activities for children with kidney disease and tailored funding to families. Hospital FUN For any child that is in hospital it can be a very stressful and upsetting time. We work alongside play specialists and social workers by offering to fund various parties, outings, child entertainers’ day trips etc. These bring a sense of normality and more importantly a smile and laughter to the children. We also fund distraction toys to help with invasive procedures and ward toys to help educate and stimulate play for the children. Typical costs for these activities and toys are £50 - £500 Apply for a ‘FUN’ grant Family FUN Many children receive their regular dialysis treatment at home, however they still have to attend hospital regularly for their ongoing appointments. We strongly believe that ‘family time’ is extremely important for any child. We offer grants to families so that they can all enjoy some FUN time together; this could be for a day trip, weekend break, trip to the seaside, trip to the amusement park or simply a picnic in the park. This is just as important for brothers and sisters too, as the whole family gets to spend some special time together away from the daily routine of medication and treatment. Typical costs for family fun time is between £50 - £400 Family funding For many families that have a child with kidney disease, one of the parents will become the full time carer and this can put extra stain on the family finances. We support families by helping with grants towards items needed around the home in relation to the child’s illness. This could simply be new clothes, bedding, washing machines and tumble dryers to more specialised help including storage solutions for dialysis fluid and dialysis trolleys to specialised prams etc. General costs for individual items to help a family are between £50 - £250 Apply for a child / family grant Emergency Support For any child that is admitted into hospital as an emergency it is extremely upsetting for the whole family. Parents want and need to be with the child as much as possible and sometimes this can be very expensive as there are only 13 paediatric renal units across the country so many children will not be at their local hospital. This means travelling and living expenses can very easily mount up. We feel that this should not be an extra worry that the parents should have at such a time so we try and help with financial grants so that the family can be with the child as much as possible in any medical emergency. Our support is tailored to the exact requirements of the family therefore grant amounts differ with each emergency.
